Will Lamar Odom Continue “Keeping Up With the Kardashians”?

Lamar Odom

When Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom first appeared together on the then wildly popular Keeping Up With the Kardashians, viewers knew Lamar as an LA Laker. In a few short weeks he became a household name. It’s not that he wasn’t (as) famous before, but it was a whole new world filled with interviews and paparazzi following him everywhere. For a kid who lost his mom at 12 and had a heroin addict for a dad, things had changed.

Viewers of Keeping Up With the Kardashians had serious doubts about the quick marriage of Khloe and Lamar in September of 2009. “Lammy” as Odom, 34, was affectionately called by his new wife, was shown sparingly for that fourth season but E! Entertainment Television took care of that with the addition of a new reality show, Khloe and Lamar.

When Khloe and Lamar premiered in April 2011, it was an instant hit and Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom became huge stars. For Lamar, episode one pulled on the heartstrings as Khloe pushed for a reunion between Lamar and his father, Joe. In hindsight, Khloe’s well intended plan might have backfired. Fast forward to August of this year and the shocking news that Odom had indeed followed in his father’s footsteps, except with crack (and possibly Oxycontin and Ambien) rather than heroin.

Looking at his past, it’s not surprising that Odom could have a host of issues. Along with the loss of his mother and his dad’s drug use, he lost one of his children, Jayden, at just 6 1/2 months, to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) in 2006. Odom has two other children, Destiny, 16 and Lamar Jr., 13 with his ex-girlfriend of ten years, Liza Morales.

Aside from drugs, Odom has a little problem with remaining monogamous. Even though he met Khloe while he was broken up with Morales, she reacted like he had cheated. Once with Khloe, not only did he cheat, he bragged about it in a Rapping Under the Influence of Something video! Some incriminating lyrics include,

“And when Khloe’s out of town / I still be on the DL.” His friend adds, “You know what it is / We the QU [Queens] pimps / Ask any of these shorties / We ran through their cribs.”

Soon after the public found out about Odom’s drug problem, he was pulled over on the 101 freeway in the San Fernando Valley for going too slow. He failed field sobriety tests.

“He did what no one should ever do, he refused the chemical tests,” Leland Tang, Public Information Officer for the California Highway Patrol said. “That means that his license is revoked and Lamar could get the most powerful attorney in the world and he is still not going to have a license for a year.”

The media was expecting Odom to enter a treatment center like most public figures do after being outted. Not Lamar, it seems he did a stint in 2012 totally under the radar! Recently, Odom received his sentence for the incident, which he pleaded no contest to. He ended up with three years probation, alcohol education classes and $1814 in fines. Now, both Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom have DUI records.

During this entire debacle, Khloe, 29, has remained fairly quiet. She hasn’t really talked about him or their marriage short of a few Twitter comments and obvious sadness at the mention of his name on a recent KUWTK episode. According to new reports, the rambling rap video has set Khloe over the edge and it seems those reports were on the money. Khloe has just filed for divorce.

The timing of this was clearly well orchestrated! First the “Lamar’s Rap Sets Khloe Over the Edge” reports. Two days later, she posted a dramatic quote on Instagram. Just after filing on Friday, her brother Rob tweeted a message to her and her mother tweeted a clearly pre-written note. Maybe the least shocking surprise here was the release of a promo last week for the next season of KUWTK, including plenty about the breakup!

As calculating as these moves might be, the family sticks together like glue. In the promo, Khloe’s sister, Kourtney, is on the phone with Lamar as he tells her he would do anything to be accepted back into the family. Sadly, he adds, “You guys are all I got.” While the family will probably continue to support Odom, do you think he’ll make any appearances during the new season? As much support as Khloe has, do you think she’ll be pushed to make choices that are good for the show rather than good for herself?
