Season five of “Teen Mom 2″ ended April 13, 2014, but there may still be plenty more to come.
Speculation about the future of the show first began in March 2014, when it was reported that the show would come to an end after season five.
“There is no season 6 of Teen Mom 2,” a production source revealed to Radar Online. “Season 5 is the girls’ last season.”
At the time, the production source claimed that the network wanted to end the season on a high note.
“They are extending season 5, but no more after that,” the source said. “Though it is not season six, per se, it’s pretty much another season. The girls already filmed a reunion for ‘season 5′ but this season is technically ‘season 5b.'”
Two weeks after the Radar report hit the web, Kailyn Lowry seemingly confirmed the news, telling fans that the show was “not over,” and that she and her co-stars were simply taking a “break.”
However, their “break” appeared to end quickly, as Jenelle Evans began posting photos of herself filming on Instagram.
On April 9, Evans shared a photo of the inside of her vehicle, which had been set up for filming with three cameras installed on the windshield. In the caption, she wrote, “Let’s get the ball rollinnnn.”
One month later, on May 4, Evans took to Instagram a second time, sharing another photo of her vehicle cameras with the caption, “The story of my lifeeeee…”
While the other cast members, including Leah Calvert and Chelsea Houska, have stayed silent regarding a possible sixth season, or continuation of season five, it seems clear that “Teen Mom 2″ is far from over.
As for when the season, be it 5B or six, will premiere, The Ashley’s Reality Roundup claims it will be in September of this year.
“As of right now, [September] is when they are planning to air Season 5B,” the site reported. “The episodes will feature everything that happened after the reunion was taped in February until the events that take place around August.”
Among the story lines expected is the birth of Evans’ second son, Kaiser. During season five, fans watched as Evans met and fell in love with Nathan Griffith. Three months later, the pair decided to plan for a family, and in Dec. 2013, announced they were expecting a baby, due June 29.
The Ashley’s sources also revealed that while MTV had previously decided that Season 5B would be the show’s last, they have since reconsidered and are now discussing keeping the girls on for a sixth season.
