Tia and Tamera Mowry begged their mother to relocate their family to Southern California so they could become actresses. After the move, the twins agreed that if they didn’t sign a deal in the first month, they would return home. Needless to say, they stayed in California.
At the age of 12, Tia and Tamera began appearing in commercials and landed a couple of small roles. As a result, the entire family, which consisted of the twins, their two younger brothers, and their parents, made Los Angeles their home in 1990 and the twins dove head-first into careers as actresses.
Four years later, Tia and Tamera hit it big when they landed roles on “Sister, Sister,” a series which was created for them by a producer they met on the set of “Full House” when they made guest appearances. “Sister, Sister” ran for two years on ABC before it was canceled due to poor ratings. At that point, the series was picked up by The WB, where it aired for an additional four years.
In the years following, Tia and Tamera continued on with acting in movies, including “Twitches and Twitches Too.” The twins later hopped aboard the reality TV bandwagon with their own special on the Style Network, “Tia & Tamera,” which later turned into a series featuring the pair in their personal lives as well as their professional ventures. The show aired for three seasons, but on December 30, 2013, Tamera tweeted that the series was coming to a close.
“Wanted to say Thank You for all the love and support. But most of all welcoming me, my husband, n my son into your homes for 3 seasons,” Tamera tweeted. “We are truly blessed:) More than anything I wanted you all to see who I was TRULY as a person and the show Tia and Tamera has done that.”
“Thank you for 3 amazing years of Tia and Tamera,” she continued. “Now… onto my new talk show The Real and some great things I can’t wait to share with u. Yes, Tia and Tamera will not have a season 4. Thank you for always supporting us throughout the years. Tia n I decided it was time 2 live r family lives behind the cameras. U can still look forward 2 Tia’s Instant Mom n my talk show the real.”
While Tia and Tamera Mowry may be done with reality TV, at least for now, they aren’t done with the spotlight. Both of them are still on TV, with Tia starring in the sitcom “Instant Mom” and Tamera co-hosting “The Real.”
