Netflix Says: Keep Your Suggestions to Yourself!

Netflix announced it is adding profiles so you can do just that.

Each subscription will get five unique profiles, and each profile will be given recommendations based on their particular watching history. Netflix said some of their biggest complaints have been “what to watch” suggestions being skewed by other viewers’ preferences. (Ask my husband, who loves military films, what he thinks of Shawn the Sheep.) Each profile can also be connected to a Facebook account, so each user can get personalized recommendations from friends.

What else would you add profiles to? Are profiles something cable and satellite companies should consider? Several already offer “favorite channels” lists. What’s the difference?
