Demetria McKinney is the newest Housewife on “The Real Housewives of Atlanta.”
On Aug. 19, Cable TV told you all about Claudia Jordan, who also joined the cast — now we’ll fill you in on McKinney.
In early August, reports of McKinney’s addition to the series first surfaced. A “Us Weekly” source later revealed McKinney was “officially signed on to be a full-time Housewife.”
McKinney is a single mother with a career in acting and hopes of a career in the music industry. In addition to her successful run in the Atlanta theater scene, McKinney starred in a handful of television series and movies, even garnering a nomination for a National Association for Multi-ethnicity in Communications (NAMIC) Vision Award for her role as Janine Payne in “House of Payne.”
In the last couple of years, McKinney has seemingly put her acting aside in lieu of a career in music, releasing a handful of singles. Her most recent release, “100,” featured rapper Da Brat and she collaborated with Musiq Soulchild on “Still Believe in Love” last year.
Although McKinney and the cast of “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” are still in production on season six, reports have already surfaced, claiming McKinney is caught in a love triangle with her co-star, Kenya Moore.
On Aug. 7, Tamara Tattles reported the man McKinney is dating, Roger Bobb, the Executive Producer and Director of “The Rickey Smiley Show,” was “getting intimate” with Moore.
As fans will recall, Moore made headlines last year after claiming Phaedra Parks’ husband pursued her sexually. While no solid evidence ever surfaced, the feud between Moore and Parks became a major story line on the show.
According to Tamara, Bobb is allegedly dating multiple women, but McKinney is convinced he is loyal to her. Either way, the dynamic between Bobb and the two co-stars is sure to stir up some controversy on the show.
During a recent interview with “Pose Magazine,” NeNe Leakes didn’t appear too positive about the new wives’ addition, telling the magazine that often times new Housewives are too busy trying to make a scene and often forget to be true to themselves.
“These other girls come on as characters,” Leakes said. “I always tell people if you got with all of us outside of the show, I guarantee you, the person you really like on the show? You probably won’t like them because they are not really who you think they are.”
Leakes also claimed new cast members come after her because she is “the original.”
Leakes does have a point there. When it comes nabbing a spot on a show like the “Real Housewives,” women really have to make themselves known in order to be asked back. And, at times, that means going after the show’s biggest name.
That being said, McKinney appears to be setting herself up for a Leakes friendship. After all, everyone knows Leakes and Moore don’t get along, so if McKinney is also on the outs with Moore, she and Leakes may have a common ground.
“The Real Housewives of Atlanta” season seven premieres Sunday, November 2.
