Mark And Donnie Wahlberg Sign On To A&E Reality Series Based On Their Boston Burger Joint

Mark and Donnie Wahlberg have just signed on to participate in a new reality series about their family business, Wahlburgers.

Mark and Donnie will star in the series along with their mother Alma, their cousin, Johnny Alves (on whom the Entourage character Johnny “Drama” Chase is based), and a few other family members including brother Paul, who is the Wahlburgers executive chef, and family friends, Henry “Nacho” Laun and Billy Leonard.

“A&E announced today that brothers Mark and Donnie Wahlberg have inked a deal to appear in and executive produce a new unscripted series called Wahlburgers, which will go behind the scenes of their family’s Boston-based burger joint,” Entertainment Weekly reported earlier this week. “Donnie broke the news about the series during an appearance on The Arsenio Hall Show Monday night.”

The unscripted series will go behind-the-scenes of the Wahlberg’s family restaurant in Hingham, Massachusets, showing the workings of the restaurant as well as their family dynamic — but not in a Kardashians sort of way. When asked at the Lone Survivor premiere whether the series will be something like Keeping Up With The Kardashians, Mark explained, “It’s very different. It’s very different. Nothing against them. They’ve been hugely successful. It’s just about building a family business. Uh, it’s just very different, very different.”

Below is the story of the Walburgers straight from the company’s official website:

“We still remember the smell of our dad’s BBQ grill and the big pot he used to fry up our homemade French fries. It’s the casual comfort food from our childhood that we love best.  In hopes of sharing some of these favorite recipes, we got together with our family and partners to create a comfortable, friendly restaurant that would appeal to every generation.  Of course, one of our favorite foods has always been burgers and there are plenty of them here along with a few creative spins on fun side dishes from our past.”

Mark embarked on an acting career back in 1993 and quickly rose to the top of the game in movies such as The Basketball Diaries and Boogie Nights, but it wasn’t until 2004 when he started producing on the hit HBO series, Entourage. From there, he went on to produce Boardwalk Empire, How To Make It In America, and more.

In addition to Wahlburgers, Mark is also working on Rock The Boat: New Kids on the Block, a series following the group’s recent fan cruise to the Bahamas. That show is set to debut next year on the TV Guide Network.

Wahlburgers premiere on January 22 at 10:30pm on A&E.
