‘Girl Meets World’ Searches For New Audience While Maintaining ‘Boy Meets World’ Fans’ Interests

Girl Meets World

Girl Meets World is set to debut sometime in early 2014, but ahead of the big premiere is tons of buzz about what fans can expect to see.

From what has been revealed, the series will be shot in a similar manner to Boy Meets World, except instead of being based on the life of Corey Matthews (Ben Savage) as a young boy, it will be based on the life of Corey and Topanga Lawrence (Danielle Fishel)’s daughter, Riley (Rowan Blanchard), and her best friend, Maya (Sabrina Carpenter).

Although Girl Meets World will certainly have its similarities to its predecessor, Ben wants fans of Boy Meets World to know that it isn’t exactly a sequel.

“I think a lot of Boy Meets World fans are sort of expecting the show to pick up where it left off. And for us, really, I don’t want them to be disappointed, but this show, Girl Meets World, is for a new generation,” Ben told PopSugar earlier this month. “It’s not so much a continuation of Boy Meets World as it’s a brand-new slate for a brand-new generation of kids. It’s aimed at 13-year-olds, hopefully giving them something fun to watch and something that they can enjoy with their friends. Some of the best emails and notes and messages and tweets I’ve gotten are from former Boy Meets World fans who tell me how much they’re excited about watching the new show with their own children. It’s really a nice feeling to know that they grew up with us, and now their kids are going to get to grow up with Girl Meets World.”

“We’re basically going all the way back to season one, episode one, scene one, and take one of Boy Meets World. Only, this time, it’s from a girl’s perspective,” Ben continued to Parade Magazine. “It stands on its own. Now, that’s not to say that there aren’t going to be a lot of nuggets from Boy Meets World. I’m in it. Danielle [Fishel] is in it. We have Michael Jacobs helming the show, and he wrote every episode of Boy Meets World. It’s going to have a lot of the same flavor as Boy Meets World, but with different storylines, and I have kids in this one.”

As for which of the Boy Meets World characters will be seen on Girl Meets World, fans are going to have to wait until the premiere to find out for sure. “I can’t give anything away, but I would say that you’re going to see a lot of the characters from Boy Meets World,” Ben teased. “I think our fans will be happy when they see what we’re doing.”

So far, no premiere date has been set for the series but it has been rumored that fans will get their first look in January on the Disney Channel.
