Life just got better for sports fans who have cable TV. The new mega-sports network, Fox Sports 1, will launch tomorrow, kicking things off with a matchup of big names from the UFC(Mauricio “Shogun” Rua VS. Chael Sonnen) facing off in the octagon.
People have already started to discuss Fox Sports 1 as being a major challenger to the televised sports throne, currently held by ESPN. While Fox Sports 1 is a little while away from making ESPN executives sweat, cable viewers can rejoice because competition is always good for the consumer.
FS1’s crown jewel is the UFC. They hope that the UFC and its die-hard fanbase will provide a solid foundation to build on. Given the growth-rate the UFC has experienced over the past decade, that seems like a pretty good bet.
The channel will also air Pac-12 and Big-12 football, NASCAR Nationwide and Sprint Cup races – including the Daytona 500, regular and post-season Major League Baseball – including the World Series, Champions League Soccer, the U.S. Open, the Cotton Bowl, the FIFA World Cup in 2018 and 2022, and much more.
