Brian Pounds joined “The Voice” 2013 on Team Blake Shelton. You probably remember his blind audition where he performed the song “Wagon Wheel” by Darius Rucker. This performance was enough to get this Oklahoma native a spot on Team Blake and help jump start his career.
Recently I got the chance to interview Brian about his audition process and life after the show. Check out what he had to say below.
How were you recruited for the show or did you go to an open casting call?
A friend of mine in town owns a studio and he asked me if I wanted to audition for the show. I said I’d love to if I didn’t have to wait in line.
Can you explain some of the process of auditioning for “The Voice”?
You audition about 3 times before you ever make the show in front of various people who are involved with the show. For the 2nd audition they fly you to L.A. and you get to feel like a rock star..until you meet all the other incredible people involved with the show. Then you just go into your room and practice.
How has your life changed since the show?
It’s certainly gotten a little more intense. Every once in a while I’ll get recognized and that’s pretty funky. But other than that it’s business as usual. Music has always been my favorite way to pass the time so now I’m just looking for more and more opportunities to do that.
What was it like to work with Blake Shelton?
Blake is the funniest guy I’ve ever met in my life. He puts everyone at ease even though he’s a monster celebrity. Very knowledgeable about music and a pleasure to work with.
What was your favorite experience on the show?
Killing time with Austin Jenckes. We wrote songs. We spent time at the pool. We talked about the music industry. I’m the kind of guy who values good friendships over numerous friendships. I was glad to have met someone so cool while I was out there. (You can check out a video of these two together below)
Will you get a chance to go back for the finals?
I’m not sure if it’s in the cards..time will tell…
What are the best ways for your fans to connect with you now?
I check all my social media pretty regularly. I don’t always have time to respond to everyone individually but I do like to have conversations with people so I always encourage everyone to reach out and I’ll try and respond. I’m also going into the studio to do a new album. Check out my Twitter.
Brian Pounds is out now touring and you can check out his tour dates on his website. Don’t miss “The Voice” 2013 on Monday and Tuesday nights on NBC. The big finale will take place on December 16 and that is when a winner will be crowned for this season.
